In 1996 after a twenty-year career as a chef, Tim touched clay for the first time and it transformed his life. He completed his National Diploma in General Art & Design. Then he concentrated on ceramics, initially with a Higher National Diploma and recently a B.A.(Hons) in Applied Arts where he specialised in throwing. He now works exclusively in high –fired porcelain.

He draws his inspiration from the British woodland and his work can be seen as an attempt to capture those qualities of tranquillity and stillness.

All of Tim’s work is thrown using porcelain. He varies the thickness of the vessels by using a shellac relief technique; this involves brushing french polish onto the raw clay and sponging away the untreated area, this results in areas of greater or lesser translucency. He uses delicately coloured glazes on the interiors and polishes the exteriors to promote a tactile finish.
