As well as exhibiting her work throughout the UK, Sally travelled 10,000 miles around America in 1995 visiting teaching centres and universities meeting many people in the art & craft industry. The following year, she was awarded a Crafts Council Setting-up grant. Sally models figures using slabs of porcelain or stoneware clay, forming tubes from which the work evolves. Oxides and engobes are washed on before a firing of 1170°c. The work is then finished with a sawdust firing which creates the distinctive, subtle patterns of smoke on the figures. |
