Rick was born in North Wales in 1973.
He studied Illustration at the University of the West of England before taking on a position as a Cartoonist and Designer for an American company in the Cotswolds. With over 8 years in the industry he moved to Cornwall to concentrate on his love of painting.
In 2005 he opened the Brooks Smith Gallery in St Ives with his partner Susie. They now live back in the Cotswolds and working as an Artist, Illustrator and Gallery owner he frequently makes the journey down to the seaside.
Working in Gouache, Acrylic and Oil Pastel. His work still has an illustrative feel and is influenced by nature, history, story telling and his children.
'I paint rabbits, make stories, I want to create atmosphere with narrative. I use nostalgic memories of childhood emotion. I love history, the ancient landscape, folklore and mythology. My surroundings of the Cotswolds, Cornwall and my homeland of Wales are a constant source of inspiration.'
