John was born in 1936. First trained as a sculptor. In 1962, he worked with David Leach and in 1984, started his own workshop making domestic ware and individual pots. Since 1976 he has made only individual pieces, mainly in oxidised stoneware, often with enamel glazes. For a while, the work was about English landscapes, hand built, with coloured slip-glazes and was usually fired three times. More recently, John has reverted back to making sculptural pieces. He has lectured widely in England and abroad. His work is in many public collections and exhibitions include one-man shows in Japan and Germany. He is a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association. |
