John was born in Bristol, 1929. Attended Bath Academy of Art 1949 - 1952 and then became Course Director, Part-time Courses in the Visual Arts at the Bath College of Higher Education from 1958 - 1985. 'Landscape has always provided the references for my paintings and drawings; from then on it is a question of improvising and moving the material around. Hopefully, they then become simple visual statements. I now make images that run parallel to nature rather than rely on direct observations.
